Introduction to the College of Chemistry Inner Mongolia University for Nationalities is situated in Tongliao, a beautiful city called “A Bright Pearl of Kerqin Prairie.” The College of Chemistry is one of seventeen teaching and research sections.(The former is the Chemistry Department of Inner Mongolia Teacher's College for Nationalities, which was set up in 1975. ) The College has a chemical education discipline, materials chemistry discipline. The graduate education branch has an organic chemistry specialization (The organic chemistry subject began to recruit graduate students in 2002). College also takes charge of teaching correspondence students. In 2005~2006 school year there are 1018 undergraduate students, 28 graduate students and 306 correspondence students. The College of Chemistry attaches importance to the discipline establishment and training teachers and possesses a number of teachers with rigorous work style, great professional knowledge and ability to teach in Chinese and Mongolian languages. Today the College has 10 teaching and research sections, 62 staff and faculty members, among whom eight have Doctor's Degrees and seventeen Master's Degrees. Seven are full professors, twenty-three associate professors, and also three master's supervisors and one talent of secondly level to the autonomous region's 321 project. Since the College of Chemistry was set up in 1975, it has followed the constant guideline: enhancing teacher's quality, deepening teaching reform and promoting teaching quality. The College is consistently taking effective measures in arranging teachers, inspecting class teaching, being strict examination institution and strengthening the administration of students. The college, especially, has carried out the standardized tests in three major courses —Inorganic Chemistry、Organic Chemistry and Physical Chemistry. Because the standardized test questions possess such characteristics as extensive coverage、quite difficult degree、a large number of questions and the system is detached from that of teaching, it plays an important role in improving teaching quality all round. For years, the College of Chemistry has fostered a large number of excellent teachers for ethnic minorities who are good at both Chinese and Mongolia providing many talented personnel for the autonomous region and other provinces, at the same time channeled quantities of Master and Doctor candidates to higher education and research institutions. Strikingly, the number of students who were admitted to key universities and science research institution to study has been going up: from 2000 to 2005, the proportion reaches 40% or above; 15-20% students who were taught in Mongolia also got to access. Therefore, the College of Chemistry is honored with “The cradle of breeding graduates”. The College of Chemistry pays equal attention to teaching and science research, making good use of its discipline superiority and giving full credit to its local ethnic feature to develop science research. In recent 10 years, the College has undertaken over 20 province and ministry scientific research projects, publishing 27 academic works and 673 papers, of which 32 are selected into SCI and EI. These achievements have produced great influence on society and, for the college, gained a good reputation. The College of Chemistry emphasizes students' quality and practical ability. It has 26 laboratories for basic courses and 4 graduate ones for research with an area of 3100m 2 . All equipments in laboratories have been updated; instruments are controlled by computer to the level of standardization. The four basic laboratories have passed the standardized check, reaching the standard of National Education Commission and have been given to “Autonomous Qualified Educational Laboratory”. In addition to teaching and scientific research, the College also emphasizes the work of directing students, developing the principle of “all work serves the students”. In order to create an orderly harmonious teaching and learning atmosphere.The College strengthens moral and ideal education which involves all of students' activities from students' life, athletics and academic to research, scholarship and cultural life. So the College has received praise for its favorable atmosphere and students' assiduous and eager to learn. The College of Chemistry has now gone through 30 years of struggle and of glory. It has graduate students all over the world. They make contributions to the development of economy、science、technology、culture and education causes for our country and autonomous region. The College of Chemistry is exerting its advantage, liberating its thoughts, keeping pace with the times and grasping any opportunities to meet challenges it faces, writing a new chapter for the educational development of our country.
